I received a book of poems “A Window for a Home without Walls
“from Uday Dandavate. It is a quite different experience of reading his poems.
Uday likes poems because he believes that poem is an art of touching from the distance.
That is true. Any sensitive person has to be a poet. His sensitive human mind
has delivered many messages through his beautiful poems and I am touched by his
thoughts.
Uday is an atheist. Yet, he believes in God in a different
way. He says in his poem:
there is a god inside us
who we crucify everyday
we have an opportunity
to resurrect the god
inside us
An Unstuck feather talks to poet Uday and says,
do not try catching me
do not try holding on to me
do not putting me back……….
the true joy
is in letting me fly
Poet is a professional Designer and in his book named
“window of a home without walls “, he says,
i design a window
in my imagination
as I stand in a home
without walls
He being designer also designs an ideal journey ….
in an ideal journey
the end does not matter
the purpose
the experience
the meaning
rise to the top
no matter what the end …
Poet believes that nature gave us the creative capacity so
that we can keep living purposefully.
He talks about perspectives which lead to harmonious
outcomes because of critical thinking that leads to innovation. First he is a
designer and next he is poet. No. he is a poet first and then designer.
He talked about Covid 19 which will pass in near future but
as a poet he believes that a new future will arrive not from factories, not
from reserves but from shared values, shared cultures and shared dreams of
people. Poet does not bother about pandemic. Because he believes that it is
time to reflect, reboot and reinvent. He wants us to invest in the new future.
Only Rock can talk to the poet and it says to him
you scratch my back
but I won’t scratch yours
i am not needy
my purpose is just
to be
i am a rock
i will be there
just incase
our path cross again
my purpose is
just to be
Poet says that in absence of intentions and expectations, we
can rediscover ourselves. According to poet, human aspirations are strange and
we just do not look at ourselves. The poet would like to be a river and he
expresses his thoughts in his beautiful poem on river. He wants to irrigate
minds and generate positivity hope. He would like to bring back the spring of
life. Poet looks at the Universe and feels that he is a part of Universe
because he is free to wander just like universe. Poet is different person. When
the sound of the ocean resonates with him, he hears the sound OM and he looks
for the unknown. The Nature is God to him. Poet is just like a child. He can
fly without wings and run with tired legs, his imagination is free from doubt,
fear or judgment.
Uday is a son of Madhu Dandavate. He was Professor of Physics. He was a socialist and minister in Janata Government. I liked his poem “ an insight at haji ali “. Uday was a
seven year old boy. He was holding his father’s hand and walking in the evening
at haji ali to see the beautiful Sea Shore of Mumbai. The Sun was setting and
his father was pointing at the moon and saying to him:
whether it is a day
or night
you can always find
a source of light
His father who was a physicist told him " You can always find a source of light whether it is a day or night". This poetic answer is based on physics and philosophy. Reading his poems is a dose for us to get activated and look
for a new future. I am sure, you will like his poems and they will always
remind you the search for god within you.
